The legendary beauty of the Amalfi Coast beckons visitors from far and near. They come to admire mountains that cascade into pristine waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, to explore picturesque medieval towns, and to tackle scenic mountains trails.
Amalfi Coast, which goes from Positano to Vietri sul Mare, is a sinuous balcony suspended between cobalt blue sea and green terraces cultivated with lemons, vines and olive trees. The Coast is a continuous succession of rocky spurs overlooking the sea, with anti-Saracen towers guarding the bays, small beaches and seaside villages, often perched on the slopes of the mountain, in one of the most stunning routes in Italy.
Coming from Naples or Sorrento, we’ll start our tour from Positano, the vertical city, with colored houses built on steep terraces sprawling down to the beach and are connected by tiny streets and long stairways. At the bottom we can find the majolica dome of Santa Maria Assunta church, while offshore you can see the three islets of “Li Galli“.
Continuing eastwards, we’ll cross the municipality of Praiano and reach first the suggestive fiord of Furore, that features a small fishing village, and later Conca dei Marini town, where you can visit the Emerald Grotto.
After a few minutes, we can enter Amalfi, an ancient city in front of the sea and one of the most popular destinations in Italy: a wonderful historical center that features terraces cultivated with lemon trees, watchtowers and bell towers, two hotel-convents with Moorish cloisters, and so many wonders surprising us even today at the beginning of the 21st century.
A few steps from the bustling Piazza Duomo, with monumental façade of S. Andrew’s Cathedral, you can find a network of narrow lanes and steep steps that lead into unique and silent corners, where art, culture and nature express the spirit and history of Southern Italy. You can spend a bit of time here discovering cuisine and desserts of Amalfi Coast, or go shopping and taste a good limoncello liquor, made with lemons from Valle dei Mulini.
In the afternoon, our tour continues to Ravello, an elegant and refined town immersed in gardens at 365 meters above sea level. At the center of Ravello we can visit Piazza Vescovado, the Cathedral founded in 1086 and Villa Rufolo, where Ravello Festival takes place.
After a walk of 15 minutes, we’ll reach Villa Cimbrone and its “terrace on the infinite”, one of “the most beautiful view in the world”.
If you prefer something different, you can continue along the Coast and stop at Minori in order to visit archaeological site of Villa Romana, then cross Maiori and reach Vietri sul Mare, well-known for typical artisanal ceramics.
Tour across Amalfi Coast requires a whole day, but don’t hesitate to ask for information about possible changes due to time requirements.
