Description

Path of Gods

Path of Gods is one of the most popular trekking trails in Italy. There’s a reason for that: breathtaking views, colors, aromas, flavors, landscapes and stories…will make your day unforgettable. A trip to Amalfi or Sorrento isn’t complete without living this experience!

From Agerola, a small mountain town at over 2000 ft above sea level, trail runs over the cliffs of Amalfi Coast up to Nocelle, a village located about 1300 ft above sea level and behind Positano. Path is almost entirely downhill and well-marked: anyway, it is advisable to wear hiking shoes and carry water, sun hat and hire a local guide of course!

Tour details:

We’ll start from Bomerano and, once reached Biscotto Cave, we’ll continue towards Colle Serra. Just below, vine-covered terraces descend almost down to the sea, shaping a unique landscape. When you reach a certain point, you can continue along the high path or take the lower one, which often runs along the edge of mountains overlooking houses of Praiano and coastal road. People suffering from vertigo are advised. Then, we’ll meet some houses and Church of S. Maria a Castro and attached Convent of S. Domenico, while typical Mediterranean scrubland spreads upwards.

Not many years ago, path was the only road available to get from Agerola and Furore to Praiano and Positano: residents walked that path to carry products of the land, pasta, wheat and milk, for example: “fiordilatte” and other kind of cheeses have been made by people from Nocelle until a few decades ago. Path was also employed by bandits, whose stories still live in popular memory, and continues through woods of holm oaks, caves and deep inlets, suspended between sky and sea, and offers spectacular views of Positano, Li Galli Islands, Punta Campanella and Island of Capri in the background.

You can reach village of Nocelle, where you can enjoy a lemon granita or some local specialties, reach coastal road through a long flight of steps or continue to local bus stop and get off at Positano to take a swim at the beach or return to Amalfi by motorboat.
